What is Gut-stasis ?

Gastrointestinal Hypomotility which is a decreased movement in the gastric system and is a serious & potentially life-threatening condition that can affect Rabbits, Guinea pigs and Chinchillas

What causes Gut-stasis?

Primary cause: When your Bunny eats something abnormal, for example a piece of blanket, toxic plants, cleaning chemicals or piece of wire.

Secondary cause: Gut-stasis due to another underlying illness, pain or stress.

What is the symptoms of Gut-stasis?

  • Decreased eating
  • Decreased stool production 
  • Painful when touching the stomach 
  • Bloating 

Gut-stasis is deadly and if your pet has the above mentioned symptoms you must get the animal to an exotic savvy vet as soon as possible. As it can kill your pet in a matter of hours.
